A Few Notes on International Shipping

A few notes on international shipping: I use Etsy’s wonderful shipping widget, which both allows me to ship more cheaply to you (because it gives me a business rate) and more efficiently (because it fills out all my forms for me, like magic). The address you put in when you purchase an item is the address that goes on the envelope. The only thing I do is weigh the package and choose the mail class. Which I think is pretty cool– it saves me hours of time during my week, and allows me to pack my orders much more quickly.

What I charge for shipping covers only postage (which sadly has nearly doubled for international customers) plus about a dollar for gift packaging and a bubble mailer. It does not cover your country’s customs fees.

And tangentially related– since Etsy’s shipping widget is so marvelous, it fills out the customs forms for me. But what this means is that there is no way for me to edit the value of your item. If you made a $40 purchase, the customs form reads $40 value. I am sorry, but I cannot reduce this to avoid customs fees outside the US.

Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding international shipping. I’d love to answer your questions!

Warmly,

Christina

Shipping Updates

First, the good news! I have a new batch of shinies up at the shop! A replenishment of faery wings, new resin creations, a sojourn into steampunk and wanderlust, and new additions to the Woodland Moss series!

In a bit of sad news, the USPS has doubled the price of international shipping in the past week.

Prices in the shop have now been adjusted for international customers. Right now, it’s based on the cost of a 3 oz package, which is my average weight, plus $.75 to cover my labels, ink, box, and padded envelope. Of course, if I end up owing someone more than $1 back, I will refund it.

I have also altered the Earring Club subscriptions so that shipping and price are separate, to account for international costs. This will not affect international customers who have already purchased their listings.

Shipping to Italy remains at the international priority small box cost, as their postal service loves to eat packages, and at least with priority, I have some recourse to recoup loss if that happens.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask or email me!

A reminder about insurance.

Hey guys: a little bit of less-fun shop talk.

As many of you know, I insure all packages worth $125 or more free of charge. If your order is less than $125, you are welcome to request insurance, which generally ranges $3-$7.

If you do not request insurance, and the USPS loses your package before it is delivered (delivery confirmation is both proof of mailing and delivery/ non-delivery), there’s not a lot I can do. I do make an effort to offer some solution, be it re-making items at cost, or giving a small credit to my shop, because it’s no more the customer’s fault than it is mine, but that’s a personal decision outside of my stated shop policies. It’s costly to me when that happens, but there you have it.

Considering USPS is making me tear out my hair at the moment over a lost package, I thought it’d be a good time to re-post my guidelines. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Now back to your regularly-scheduled Holiday Madness. I hope you are enjoying warm and bright things.

Warmly,

Holiday sparklies: what to expect, and shipping deadlines

A quick note about this year’s holiday sparklies:

As many of you know, in addition to my work at Sihaya Designs, I also work part-time at a local bead and metals shop.  My boss, Bill, has been out for the better part of the month, as he is recuperating from a surgery that aimed to rid him of cancer. Things are looking good for him, but he’s needed lots of recovery and resting time. As a result, I’ve been in the shop a lot more, and out of my own studio.

In addition, I am lining up in-person vending opportunities for the month of December. So, in order to best manage my schedule and make sure there are plenty of sparklies to go around, I have decided to split my update in two.

Update number one will go up on Monday the 25th– aka, Cyber Monday. There will be a coupon code, because I’m festive that way. 🙂  The update will include a full restock of my faery wings– I listened to the crowd consensus over on Facebook, and I made lots of blues, purples, and greens, along with some experimental duochrome and glittery wings.  There will also be ornament earrings, earring wardrobes with holiday and wintry themes, resin pendants, and sundry earrings.

Update number two will go up sometime in the first week of December. It will include wirework (like my labradorite pendants), fancypants wire-sculpted earrings, some recycled fine silver metalwork, and anything else that strikes my fancy.

This will give me ample time to ship orders so that you can have them for the holiday.  International customers should order by Friday, December 7th to ensure delivery, and US residents should order by Friday, December 14th. As always, expedited shipping is available upon request.

Thank you so much for your support in this past year. Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who celebrate. I hope the chilly weather finds you all with warm, snuggly blankets and hot beverages of your choice!

Warmly,
Christina
